You know of the owl and pussy cat Who sailed a pea green boat on the sea, But have you heard of the mouse and owl Who lived in a cage "neath an old apple tree?" By all laws of nature, in the wink of an eye The bird would have been eaten by the cat, And the owl would have torn the mouse to bits Quicker than you can say scat. The first is a fairy tale pleasant to read, The second is a story that's true Just listen as I tell this strange story Exactly as it is, to you. Mother Owl hooted "Fluffer, my son, This hassle for food wears me thin. There must be an easier way for you to be fed, Find a bird-loving family - live with them." So Fluffer, the owl, wise for his age, Fluttered down to the ground one night. "Oh poor little bird, we can't leave you here" Guess who found him - a bird loving family -.right! So Fluffer dined on sparrows and meat, Hand fed to him day and night. Then one day a mouse was turned loose in his home, The family wanted to feed Fluffer right. Now Fluffer, both suspicious and wise Thought, "If I pound on that stupid mouse, They'll think I can hunt and feed myself And they'll turn me out of my house." The mouse shivered and shook but soon felt safe, On the floor were bits of bread and cheese, And he realized he had a great thing going So all fear of the owl did cease. The owl played it cool and made friends with mouse. The mouse pretended love for the bird. The owl slept and ate with the greatest of case From the mouse not a squeak of complaint was heard. Now happy, lazy, well-fed and content, The wise owl and the crafty mouse. Still "con" that friendly family, And live on in their comfortable house. (Sad end to Story) The owl finally ate the mouse, And he was set free in the fall. (Gratitude) He wanted to stay but the call of the wild, Was so demanding he just had to go. Creatures of the wild guard their secrets so well., So where he went, we may never know. But some moonlight night when the night noises stsrt, ses start, Should you hear a rustle in the old apple tree, It may be Fluffer returning once more. To say "Thank you, for setting me free!" |
